Hi there,

I am helping a friend of mine out with their backups. They are running 2000 Server on their whole network and Backup Exec 9.0. They may need to move their media server license to an XP workstation that they plan on hooking their new backup device to.

Can you install BE 9.0 on an XP box?

Thanks!

J Will

Sounds like they are bandaiding a backup problem? Have you considered a migration to Server 2003 or Server 2008 with an upgrade to BE? Have you verified the new backup device is compatible with BE 9?

Bandaid is correct. They have no money for the server upgrade or to get their Backup Exec up to date. The backup solution works with version 9.0 so that isn't a problem. They are just looking to more their 9.0 media server license to another device and they have this XP box in mind.

fun stuff!

Fun stuff indeed. Can I ask what is driving the need to move the media server?
