I have been having a real problem with a backup to a Seagate STT2000N tape drive. I am using ntbackup and it will stop at random times with a "bad data" error. The computer is a win2000 server sp3 with 3 8gig hd striped together with a PERC-2/SC raid controller with 4 gig partition for os and 12 gigs for data. This server was hit pretty hard by the bugbear virus a couple of months ago and the backup hasn't worked since around then. I have had success only backing up the bare essentials which is about and 1.7 gigs and that worked fine. But trying to do a full backup of around 8 gigs gives that error. I thought that ntbackup might have gotten corrupted but I reinstalled the operating system and the error still shows up. Not really sure what else to try. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks

I am also having this problem in an almost identical setup. Oringinally the problem was intermittently giving the error message 'no unused media was available' even after I fixed the know NTBackup issue that related to this message. As a precaution the Motherboard, SCSI card and Tape unit were all replaced. Since then I have been having intermittent failures of error message 'bad data'. I have not yet rebuilt the OS as Earl suggested in his Post that it did not fix the error. PLEASE HELP!!!

I am glad to see I am not the only one Wickedcool69. I am still having this problem. I have upgraded RAM, slowed the SCSI transfer speed and even tried an evaluation copy of backup exec. The only thing left is the tape drive but that is new and the old one was giving the same error. I have no idea what to do!!!??!!?

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I ended up rebuilding the OS and it appeared to fix my problem.... well for a few weeks at least but now it's come back! My next plan was to install backup exec but I see that didn't work for you either. I'm going out onsite tomorrow so I'm praying for a miracle. I'll post a msg if I discover something
