NRU 11 - Using Modem Trouble

I have a clean, tested installation of Norstar Remote Utilities 11 (NRU) on an XP machine.

Successfully used a modem with NRU and used the Remote Set Tool, Backup and Restore Tool and the Browser Tool, so I know the modem is working and connecting to the MISC 7.1.

Here's my issue, when trying to acquire ICS, using an OLP Workbook, the modem grabs dial tone and starts to dial, but the modem-tone sounds broken and "dirty". It fails to connect successfully. When I go back to one of the regular tools, Remote Set Tool, Backup and Restore Tool and the Browser Tool, it connects without incident.

Is there a known issue in the scenario? I have the latest OLP Workbooks from Nortel/Avaya and have configured the workbook for the correct MICS software and size.

Any help would be very much appreciated............

Steve

I don't mind coming to work, but that eight hour wait to go home is a bitch.

I don't know of any known issue, never had this trouble before.

Is there no error code?

In workbook where you can Acquire there is an Edit Errors choice, maybe the error is listed there.

Modems are finicky and so can the the dial string etc, good old robotics 3X,0000 ones work well.

What is your exact process to connect?

No errors out of the ordinary in the log, just Connection lost or modem timeout.

The modem string is the same in both cases. Using the same modem. Just doesn't seem to make sense.

I have a few USRobitics modems laying around, I'll try one and get back to ya.

Thanks for the response.

In the NRU:

In Cust Info, I select the customer
under Run Tool - Select Workbook
In Windows dialog box, open the correct workbook file
After Excel opens, Select ICS dropdown and then Acquire ICS
Select required Regions, etc. click OK.
options Windows opens to select Physical Layer - I select the modem, click OK
enter connection Properties as required and click Connect.

that's when the modem seizes dial tone and it goes downhill from there.

I've also opened the workbook directly and tried Acquire ICS from there and get same result.

I was going there.....to try the opposite.

Well if not modem (or maybe the driver?) then XP or PC would be my next choices but I am outta ammo, not that I had much.

An update..............

I have tried this same setup on a completely different modem on the same machine (PC) and 2 different modems on another machine (PC) = Same Result (when trying to acquire ICS, using an OLP Workbook, the modem grabs dial tone and starts to dial, but the modem-tone sounds broken and "dirty". It fails to connect successfully. When I go back to one of the regular tools, Remote Set Tool, Backup and Restore Tool and the Browser Tool, it connects without incident)

However..............

I found and connected an old faithful USRobitics modem to an old laptop running Windows 2000 and viola! It seems to work fine. OLP Workbook is (acquiring) downloading now.

Thanks for your help! I REALLY do appreciate you and this forum.
