I have SKW/98. It was working fine last May.. I had some work done on my puter. Installed SKW again & now the Notefile won't open. I am still using the same WIN/98.
I used the same CD to install it both times. How can it just disappear?
Thanks

Dear Swedie,
The Notefile is made up of three files that are named as follows substitute the name you saved them as for ######:

#####.SKNoteHeader
#####.SKWrite
#####.SkContent

The default directory in SDK98 for them to be saved in is Userdata.

i.e. C:\Program Files\Starfish\Sidekick98\Userdata

If these files are not there, then I suggest they may have been wiped when the work was done to your computer or you could have re-installed SDK98 over them!
There is a bit of hope they may exist elsewhere so use Startmenu|Find|Files or folders and type:
*.SKC in the "Find what" Field
as the SKContent file is the most important and can be viewed in a .txt editor like Notepad.
If all three files are there then use Sidekick's File|Open dialogue box to open them from Memos View

I guess I didn't explain that very good.
I had my hard drive reformatted. Reinstalled all my stuff again. Using same OS.
It isn't my data I can't get, the program won't open.
In the dropdown menu, the Readme file, export, import & quick tour work, but when I click on the Quick menu or Sidekick , they don't open.
Its the same CD I installed it from before. It worked before.. How can something go missing from the CD?
Thanks.
I'm having withdrawals not having my Sidekick!!

Dear Swedie,
Have you tried using:

Start Menu|Find|Files or Folders

and looking for the file:

Sidekick.exe

Usually in the Folder:

C:\Starfish\program
Double-Click on the file and if Sidekick then opens normally, you can then Right-click on the file and drag it to the desktop and when you release it the options come up to:

1. Copy Here
2. Move Here
3. Create a Shortcut Here

Choose to Create a Shortcut Here
and then when you Double-Click on it it should open Sidekick again as usual.
HTH
