We have a Nortel BCM 1000. Whenever an IP phone loses the VPN connection (it happens once or twice a day), the phone makes a loud tone as soon as the connection is reestablished.

I can't find a setting to turn this tone off, which is very annoying. In fact, since I have an IP phone connected to the system in my bedroom, it wakes me up in the middle of the night if there is an intermittent connection problem with our VPN connection to the office.

Anyone have any ideas?

Your VPN connection shouldn't be dropping. I would check out that problem first. Personally I don't know of any setting that turns off that beep but maybe someone else on here is aware of it. If so, I would like to know too.

If your internet connection in your house is a PPPoE connection, make sure the keep alive function is active.

If I had one in my bedroom and it woke me up in the middle of the night when I wasn't on call, I would introduce it to my Louisville Slugger!

Thanks. VPN isn't an issue for me - the annoying connection "buh-beep!" is the issue.

I'd be thrilled if someone can tell me a method to disable this behaviour.

Cheers,
Andrew
