I have a IP500 located in a data center with about 20 remote users connecting via hardware VPN back to that location. I also have a site (site A) with 5 5610 telephones connecting to the data center and another location (site B) with 4 4610 telephones. Any of the 20 users at their individual locations can call extensions at site A or B without a problem. However, when site A & B call each other's extensions the telephone rings but there is no voice path. If they dial the other location using outside dialtone the calls are successful.

Here are a few other details:
*Site B was a former QE location. Phones were flashed to work with IPO.
*Site B has a 5610 telephone that works properly to site A
*No data network changes have been made
*Direct Media Path is selected on each extension

tried turning on/off direct media path?
codec setting on G711/G729 not automatic?
firewall issue?

DMP issue for sure I think :)

>DMP issue for sure I think

There is no such thing as a DMP issue. Turning off DMP may cause the symptom to go away, but the root cause (poor IP routing setup) still exists

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Haven't tried turning off direct media path because of call volume but plan to do that after hours. Codec set to automatic for all devices. Firewall could be a possibility but does not make sense since they can call other extensions and the 5610 phone works from the same location as the 4610 phones.

I know that, but saying "I also think this is an ip routing issue that will be confrmed by turning off DMP and retesting" is a longer way of saying I agree with BAS on this one. :)

Well Riddle, you need to be clearer then

but we all agree - routing!

It was Direct Media Path, but interestingly enough the site to site calls that worked properly were the ones with unmatched DMP settings. Extensions that had DMP checked on both ends of the call had no voice path. Unchecked Allow Direct Media Path on all extensions and everything works.

Thanks all!

Excellent - problem hidden solved then

Yes, but at least now I can pass it back over to the data guy. Customer has a separate person to handle that portion of his network.

cmnstr, that's always the case, turning it on breaks it because it assumes routing is in place between handsets. Turning it off fixes it as it forces all calls through the IP ofice :)
