Hi All,

Ive been thrown in the deep end. Our fax line stopped sending to local number a few months ago and about a month ago stopped sendind to any number at all. I have a Fax modem plugged into the ONS 1 port at the back of the Mitel 3300.

As far as my limited understanding of this system goes the settings seem to be in order.

Could you please assist me with trouble shooting this.

I dont expect to be spoon fed, but I have been googling my ass off and cant get this sorted.

Thank you

A little bit more information. The error on the modem at the moment is "No Carrier Detected". Also incoming faxes are working just fine.

Given that you get incoming calls to the fax modem ( plugged in to ONS port 1? ) then it could be you are not dialing out correctly. Can you hear the fax modem going through its dialing squence? Is it getting out on a trunk. Many people forget to add the trunk access code to fax numbers when using a machine.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Haha, love the signature :D.
The dial string starts with ATDT9 which is the same as all the other phones in the office, All using 9 to get a trunk. I can hear the modem dialling. Yes it is plugged in to ONS port 1.

Do you here the modem get answered and the negotiation between both ends trying to determine speed? What speed are you trying to connect at? Have you tried a lower rate?

Also are the calls going out to the PSTN via analog or PRI?

No, there is no negotiation with another modem when dialling out. It doesn't get that far, no ring ring, no pickup , no negotiation, just "No Carrier" I tried 9600 and 14400 with and without error correction.

I didnt know what PRI was so ... "The Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is a standardized telecommunications service level within the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) specification for carrying multiple DS0 voice and data transmissions between a network and a user." from wiki.

Since we have an ISDN leased line from BT I can only assume its PRI as there are no analogue lines coming into the office.

The DDI 4310 is linked to extension 199 which is linked to ONSp1.

I just plugged a normal analogue phone into that same port. I can receive calls, but when I dial a number I end up with a long drawn out tone playing on the handset.

Connect a standard analogue phone to the ONS port and try to make an internal call from the phone, if you are able to do this it could be a class of service or class of restriction issue

The extension could also be 'hotlined', try dialling with or without a 9 for external access

Log into the controller and check the station service assignment or station attributes form (depending on software level) and check that the COR matches another extension that can make outbound external calls, in the extensions COS the option 'public trunk access via DPNSS' should be set to yes

Thanks MR Mitel. I went to the station service assignment form, and changed the settings to match all the others. Im not sure what each class number represents, but its worked. Thanks allot.
