When I click on the text tool then click where I want to put the text it turns a different color like a mask. how do I remove this so I can just type in some text I have right clicked on the tool and made sure it was just horizontal type. thx for any and all help this is day one for me

...make sure you are in the layers palette and not on a channel in the channels palette, also make sure you are not in quick mask mode, pressing the 'Q' key will toggle this on and off...

...quick mask can also be turned off by the buttons at the bottom of the tools palette, underneath the foreground and background colour swatches...

...also make sure the text tool you are using is the solid icon in the tools palette, not the white ones, they are masks...
