Yes - try punctuation or take a breath :)

Seriously....

The is no such thing as a mail server program in Linux - there are various applications providing various functions to create a mail system - most will be on the CDs or easily downloadable.

First, the MTA - Mail Transport Agent - routes recieved mail to the destination. Such are Sendmail, postfix, exim etc. (Sendmail is the most popular MTA in the world but VERY complex to configure. I use postfix.

Next the MDA - mail delivery agent - if the MTA determines the mail is to be delivered locally it passes it to the MDA. This is always Procmail and will put mail into individual users mailboxes.

You could have MUAs - mail user agents - on the linux box for users to read mail (mutt, pine, evolution etc) but it sounds like you want to install an IMAP4 or POP3 server to distribute mail to remote clients.

As for getting mail in from the outside - either plain SMTP directed into the MTA or a tool like fetchmail to pull in pop3 or impa4 mail.

Throttling - check out "tc", though there are 'simpler' tools if you jsut want to throttle a webserver say.

All logins are created with scripts in linux - the base being the adduser command.

Sounds like a trip to amazon and linux book would be a very good investment. There's a lot to learn and a book will structure the tasks well.

Nice one Norwich. I give you a star.
Also I agree with your email suggestions. I use postfix, fetchmail, ipop, etc, too. Works just fine.
And a book, definitely yes. At least 1 thick one. When in doubt, RTFM or book.
