New to Cisco 2

I currently have a Cisco 2620 router. I was wondering how i can backup the configuration. Anyone have any tips?

Do you have ethernet connectivity to the router? Also, do you have priveleged access to the router (enable mode)? If yes, then you can tftp the config to a workstation. All you need is a workstation on the same network as an ethernet port on the router and tftp software on your workstation. TFTP server software is pretty easily available on the internet - Cisco makes one, and a company named solarwinds makes another good one (

http://www.solarwinds.net).

Once you have these things in place, all you have to do is get into priveleged exec mode in the router (Router#) and type copy running-config tftp or copy startup-config tftp, depending on whether you want to backup the running or startup config. The router will then ask for the IP address of the workstation running the tftp server, and the destination filename (what you want it to be called on the tftp server), and you're done.

Also: Make sure you configure the ethernet port on the router with an IP address on the same network/subnet as the TFTP server.

You can also telnet to the router using HyperTerminal. You must be in priviliged mode and type show run, but don't hit enter yet, go to Transfer, Capture Text then Enter. You will have to hit space bar until it is finished. Then go back up to Transfer and end the text capture. Save it to a floppy or your hard disk. To load that configuration on the router, you would go into Global Configuration mode and go to Send File. Travis McGuire
