Greetings Guys,

I am new to Asterisk and would just like some information about whatthe system can do. I have a customer on a Hosted solution and they hate it. My customer bought Aastra 6757i phones and would like to protect their investment. They have about 60 phones at 3 different sites. At what product should I look? Would the Asterisk box give the phones full features ( BLF, DSS, Twinning etc. )? Are there licenses to buy? What box supports FXO/FXS and PRI? I see boxes for sale called Asterisk Intel Atom Tribox?? Any good??

If you could take a minute and give an education about Asterisk and what box/equipment works best in your opinion, I would really appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Quaz

If you are interested...go to and follow instructions...this will give more functionality to Aastra phones...this script has not been updated for long time (Aastra had legal problems with some of the functions) and there is no support - but looks like still works...download User manual from first link for 2.3.0 and try to absorb what is all about...

Zoo1,

I got the Asterisk/IPO config correct. Calls are going back and forth like they are one system. I have the Asterisk sending calls out through the IPO and calls from the IPO can routed directly to the Asterisk. It seems that the thing to do would be to use an older IPO as your PSTN trunking module. The Asterisk can get calls to and from the IPO, which would allow you ( me ) to put a backup server programmed to use the same IPO for trunking on site. If the primary server fails the secondary would pickup immediately. No-one would have to switch cables from PRI to secondary server. I am not a big fan of SIP trunks to PSTN. I like a switched circuit PRI brought in on copper. It works. Comcast has a great offer for PRI circuits in US.

My problem with the Digital phones was the SIP identity on USERs in IPO. I had to change the Identity from ExtnXXX to just XXX, then it works great. Initially, I could only call from the Asterisk to the IPO. I got a busy signal going IPO to Asterisk. Asterisk firewall!!! Either put a policy allowing h323 or disable the firewall.

Zoo1, I appreciate your help and answers. I will try the Aastra phone script and let you know what goes on.

Thanks/Quaz

Zoo1,

I am trying to access webmail and it keeps saying my " Elastix interface does not have an email address assigned ".

Any idea where I assign the email account?

Thanks/Quaz

HI Quaz

Take look in "Elastix without tears", page 199, 37.5 Postfix server...

Zoo1,

I read Elastix without Tears. It's a blockbuster! I did not see where I configure an " Elastix interface User does not have an email account assigned " user. The webmail will not let me sign in till it is assigned, I believe, because when I attempt to log into WebMAil with an account I configured in email accounts, WebMail tells me the email account " login failed ". Have you seen this before, Zoo1?

Best Regards,
Dave
