Need to start a server

Hi,
I wanted to know how to setup a server for a small company. I need your advice on where to start it with and what type of hardware and software I need to.

I need to setup a server client for a small firm, so we can store various data, setup an email client and others can get access to datas. Its a small company, newely established need to start everything from the scratch.
