Does anybody have a real clean and easy way to move from Windows 2000 Server (old hardware) to Windows Server 2008 r2 (new hardware)? Have only 10 users and was thinking of installing Server 2008 OS,add users, rights and security and copy data manually. The server currently is basically used for file and printer sharing, very basic. Am not sure if I am buying into a lot of time with the migration scenarios I have researched so far.
Thanks for any input,
Karl

If the network is so small the get 2008SBS, this should meet all your needs and is easier to configure. You will also have to create a new domain as you can not go from 2000 to 2008SBS. As for data, if it is only files that will be easy unless you have programs then you will need to check to see if they are compatible.

Thanks - Ok I will proceed with what I said above by just installing Server 2008 OS single server with a new domain, as you recommended. Makes sense to me. I was going to use Robocopy as well for the directory and file transfer from server to server. Once I know every thing is working with the new server I plan on just shutting down the old one and keep it around for a couple of weeks (in case). Appreciate your input !
Thanks,
Karl
