Hi all,

I'm new on MS Project.
I have to roll-out 10 applications in 35 countries.
Some colleagues will go in countries to install applications.
I want to plan this activity in MS Project.
I want to avoid the installation of two different applications in a country at the same time.
One person can't be at Boston and Paris in the same time.
What scenario of representation can you advise me.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Palmero.

If I'm reading your question correctly, you are unaware that MS Project is just a calculation and display tool. You still need to do upfront planning and data entry to identify all your resources, tasks, hours, and precedence relationships.

1. To avoid scheduling the same person in Boston and Paris at the same time, enter each installer as a spearate resource.
2. You have to add a precedent task of travel time to each install task if you want to allow for that.
3. To avoid installing 2 apps at once you can either assign both to the same installer or link the install of one app as the precedent of another.

NEVER EVER try to go back in time with MSProject after you have entered "Actual Work".

In other words, once you have your project laid out, you might realize that someone did something a month ago that was never in the project. Don't add it to the project as a task that happened before the current date. I cannot remember what the exact problem I had was, but it really made a mess of things. I usually add it to the bottom of the project, then assign it 0 hrs of work (a milestone), then add a note stating that it was completed by such-in-such on such-in-such day and it took n hrs.

Have fun.

If it comes back to you what the problem is, please let me know. I have done this with no problem (yet!)
