Hello All, I'm stuck at a point trying to set up NDMP backups for some data on a NAS. To be sure I haven't missed a step, this is what I've done thus far:

Set up NDMP on the NB server.
Created a NDMP policy.
I can't connect to the server from NB. I get an error that says, cannot connect to host.
Is there a certain why I can connect to the NAS portion that I need to? I have an Adic Sclar 100 hooked up with fiber. I see my drives and robots but when I go to start a manual backup, the error says that no tapes/units are available. Could somebody give me some bullets for the steps I need to take to get this thing going, starting wtih 1?

To use NDMP, the device (NAS Appliance) must have a tape drive dedicated to just it. The on the NAS, you need to configure the tape drive for NDMP.

Have you tried the command line utilities to verify that you have connection.

set_ndmp_attr.exe -verify

Make sure that you can talk over NDMP from the Netbackup server to the NDMP Server.

If you can communicate over NDMP try using the tddtest (i think that is the name) to try moving the tape arm and load and unload drives.

Verify that basic communication is working.

The drives are working now. I just didn't have it set up correctly. Now if I could just get the proper path name so that I can have a backup. It keeps saying that it can't find the path to : /fsol/groups where fs01 is the file system and groups is the directory I want to back up. What should be the proper syntax?

If you use the command set_ndmp_attr.exe -probe, the devices will be listed.

Here is a link to a webpage with a howto I wrote for using NDMP on Veritas Netbackup and a Guardian OS Snap Server.

The this should give you some tips.

The path really depends on the OS that the device is connected to.
