My report opens and closes thats all !!!

I just added a new report to a system that produces lots of reports. I modelled my report on an existing one.
Its all finished and I am trying to test it. However, when I click on either the REPORT or PREVIEW buttons, the report just opens and closes - nothing else. I have put a msgbox in every event handler in the report also in its page header. Nothing fires except 'report open' and 'report close'. Not Activate, not deactivate, Not error, not nodate, not pageheader format, not pageheader print.
The report is based on a crosstab query that should return data.
I've been stuck on this for a day and this report is past due and I have not been able to see any results yet.

Has anyone got any clue what could cause this, or how I can debug it? I am totally stumped at this point.

Hi,

Is there a line in the Report_Open event saying

Cancel = True

?

Open the report in design view and check out the record source query. Do you see records and expected values? Do you have calculations in the report (or code) that expect non-null values?

The report cannot be opened in design view nor can the query be run since they both depend on complex input from forms.
The reason the report did nothing was there was an error and someone had coded an 'On Error' statement which masked all errors. Once I commented that out, the error showed up.

I can't remember exactly what the error was now but it was subtle, complex and mind-numbingly difficult to find because the pathetic Microsoft error message gave no hint where the problem lay.
