i can remember a few years back in one of my classes, we created a mounted volume, and created a folder called program files, we then moved all of the contents from the C:/program files to it.....we did this to save space because the C: drive was basic and almost full

now i remember how to create the mounted volume and how to lik it, but i dont remember if we went into command line and moved all the the PF contents from on spot to another, or if we used a linux boot disk to make the move.....any ideas or directions will be most welcome..thank you

I can't say I remember doing this myself... I would expect there would be issues with files in use. I would suggest reading over my web page on boot drive size for alternate ways of reclaiming diskspace/adjusting disk usage.

I can be reasonably certain you did not use a linux boot disk because linux write support for NTFS has been weak at best and most people will recommend against using it. You might get away with using an Ultimate Boot CD for Windows though - since that's essentially using a version of Windows on a CD/DVD to get access to the drive and in turn, has no problem writing to an NTFS partition.
