I am looking to figure out how I can calculate a MOS score for my voice calls. I know the CMR database has QoS stats (jitter, latency, etc.). Is there some way to take this and make it into MOS?
we use the NetIQ Vivinet Assessor tool to calculate LAN, WAN and WiFi MOS scores for our customers. see their webiste you can download a trial version.
Personaly I think the Vivinet tool is a good tool if you don't know what you are doing within networking and QoS. But for commercial use and reporting to customers is it very handy. It is specially handy when you want to prove your ISP they have mis-conifugred the WAN links and QoS mechanisme. The first advantage of the Vivinet tool I think is the calculation of a MOS value. MOS seems to be a marketing and selling term now a days in VoIP land. Other tools can also give you a performance overview/dropped packets/jitter values of the network.
The other advantage I see is the dummy-proof setup so anyone can setup a call-assesment.
