Question 1

I was just reading that when a new share is created the everyone group has "read" rights. Is there a method of chnging this default at the uppermost level? When I create a share I would prefer that only administrators have access, after that I will assign rights.

Question 2

When I create a user in Netware, a folder is created for the users "home drive" and rights are assigned automatically. When I create a user in Windows that doesn't seem to happen. Yet I remember specifying some defaults like location of user files and disk space quota. What did I miss? Should a folder be created for a new Windows User?

TIA,
Lou

1. No way of changing that functionality that I am aware of. It is slightly better than W2K and before which gave Everyone Full Control rights.

There is also a util you can get (I forget the name) that will hide the names of files and folders that users don't have access to a la Netware.

2. Nope, doesn't happen by default. You'd need to do it in a script unless you want to do it within the GUI as you add the user. DSADD has options for home folder etc.

For question 2 you can create a template user with a path in the home folder tab in user properties that uses the %username% variable e.g. Drive U: \\server\sharename\%username% when you copy this user to create a new user a folder will be automatically created with the same name as the user account.

I rushed that post so post back if it's not clear.

Thanks for the information. I will have a look at those links.

the login script bit

it's quicker to look at markdmac's faq and examples
it seems to have more or less everything that you will hope to do in it
