To add to the hot topic of the week(it seems)-

For some reason I can't get it to work. I went to flashkit and downloaded everysingle kind of mail program I could find, (cgi, asp) and nothing seems to work. I'm sure I'm missing out on something obvious which everyone is supposed to know, but I don't know it. I'm wondering if the problem could lie with my server? It seems like asp could be much simpler to use than cgi (do you need a cgi script to parse the variables then a perl document to send? Beats me...) from what I've seen. My server does use formmail and cgimail, but can it handle asp? I'm sure it can, but I've not used it so far, so tell them I don't need Microsoft FrontPage extensions (is that even what they are talking about?). Sorry to blab on and on...Anyone know how to get these things to work?

Thanks!

Here's an offer!
Send me your files... I'll trying putting them on a few of my servers to see what happens!

Best I can do for now!

Hey newbieofdaysgoneby,

Thanks so much for the offer, but (here I will display ignorance) I just need to go and check on my server how to access the cgi bin. It wasn't obvious like I thought at all. I should've checked it first thing. So anyone doing this stuff, refer to your server logs for how to access your cgi-bin! Also, send mail was not at all where it defaults to in other servers (I guess). Mine codes it with a variable to prevent outside access to my scripts! Nice, but jeez...

Thanks again, oldnewbie! It works great!

So you are keepin' secrets from us!

LOL "If nothing else, I can always serve as a bad example!”

No, not at all!

Anyone who has found this as aggravating as I have just needs to check where their server keeps its cgi bin. Mine is NOT at #!usr/loc/cgi/bin or whatever it usually is. So inadvertantly I was pointing to a .pl file that was in a nonexistent location. Also, my server does not allow direct access to my own cgi-bin, but instead you have to access it from your url code with the "phantom name" as I now call it. I can't wait for all this backend stuff to be done and overwith!
