Monitoring Tape Libraries with Veritas 3.4

We currently run 2 L700 Storagetek tape libraries using Veritas Netbackup Datacenter 3.4 on a E4500 (Solaris 8) as the master server.

We now want to start monitoring these tape libraries using Openview.

The vendors have suggested that we need the following software to do this Framework Monitor, L700 Library Monitor and an OpenView agent. This is however costly.

Does anybody use any alternatives to monitor their tape libraries or have any scripts that can run on the master server to monitor these tape libraries?

We have a cron job that uses drvstat to check the drive status periidically. The oncall will be paged if a drive(s) goes down.
