I have an application running on a HP-UX11 workstation.

I've tried without success to ascertain what the application is doing when it starts up.
I'd like to be able to monitor what files it opens and writes.

If it was a W**dows box I'd uses sysinternals filemon/regmon to check it.
Can anyone reccomend a utility (free or cheap) or commands that I can run to find out what I need to know.

tusc or strace may be what you need. Try googling them for more info.
