You know, as I listen to music (especially since I sing better than a lot of "professional" artists, who run their words together, or don't end their words), my brain tends to "fill in" parts of the song that my ears aren't quite getting.

Case in point. "You shook me all night long" by AC/DC. For years, and up until JUST RECENTLY, I though he was saying "She had the satin sighs, telling me no lies"... and in fact, I was *singing* the song that way... .and only recently when an AC/DC Tribute Band called Hayseed Dixie came out, did I realize the words were "She had the sightless eyes, tellin' me no lies...."

To compound things, I sang it the wrong way live several times, including at a county fair concert where I was a guest singer. <LOL>

Any other examples of "misheard lyrics" from folks? One that I can think off (that I didn't mishear, but it's funny) was "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morisette, where folks were hearing "It's not fair... to deny me.. of the cross-eyed bear that you gave to me" (cross I bear) hehe

What do you mean by that?

Cant really think of any other genre that would really reference a pawn shop.

But then again, looking for lyrics turns up entries for Pawn Shop in lyrics by Sublime (allegedy a punk baned from California)

Hope this Helps.

Hah! When's the last time California banned a punk?

er, Bob

Maybe it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Californication.

(I know the RHCPs are not a punk band.)

I dunno...I've been a punk before and, yes, California "baned" me, as well, so, what Neil said had happened was certainly not an unprecedented occurrence.[2thumbsup]

Yep, those were the two words that it could have been either of. While I grew up in country territory, where far too much of it was the whiney variety <shiver>, this a top 40 type song, I think some sort of rap/hip-hop (not a huge music fan myself). It was circa 1999 if you want to get real exact.

It has stuck with me though because I'm not sure anyone of us had heard that song before then and no one was quite sure what the exact lyrics were, which given the fact it was a public high school, could be quite signficant...

was it this:

Sublime Pawn Shop said:
Down there at the pawn shop
It's a nifty place to shop
Down there at the pawn shop
If it's not in stone
Down there at the pawn shop
It's a nifty way to shop
Down there at the pawn shop
What has been told
About not made of stone
Just remember that it's flesh and bone

So, while I'm
Down here at the pawn shop (4x)

What has been sold
Not strictly made of stone
Just remember that it's flesh and bone
And now you've heard:
Life's like a bird
Yeah, but just remember that it's flesh and bone

So, while you're
Down here at the pawn shop (2x)

What! Ouh! That's riiight
Down here at the pawn shop
It's a nifty way to shop
Down here at the pawn shop
It's enough that's sold
Down here at the pawn shop
It's a nif- ya never shop
Down here at the pawn shop.

What has been sold
Not strictly made of stone
Just remember it's flesh and bone
What has been sold
Not strictly soul
Please remember it's flesh and bone

While you're
Down here at the pawn shop (3x)
Down here at the pawn shop-yap-yap

Could very well have been. Like I said I'm not a big music fan, it was more the fact the lyrics could be taken two completely different ways and I thought that pertained to the conversation ;p

The lyrics, though lacking any real content is just a moronic overload of implicit.... pawn -> porn reference....it looks to me like one chorus, there is no verse....no story..nothing....just mindless crap.

Hope this Helps.

The song is a horrible earworm by England Dan and John Ford Coley, and I still hear the line "I'm not talking about Bolivia" in "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight".

The lyrics websites tell me the line is, "I'm not talking 'bout moving in", but I'm danged if I hear it.

One more reason for me to hate 1970's pop music.

I've heard the song and thought the line

Just remember that it's flesh and bone
was
Just remember that it's freshly Pawned

The Lyrics posted by Gooser are definately different than the ones on my CD

Off topic but Sublime has some great songs my favorite
Early in the morning risin' to the street
Light me up that cigarette and I strap shoes on my feet
Got to find a reason
a reason things went wrong
Got to find a reason why my money's all gone
Well I got a dalmatian
and I can still get high
I can play the guitar like a
mother f$%ckin riot
Life is too short so love the one you got cause you might get runover
or you might get shot
Never start no static
I just get it off my chest
Never had to battle with no bulletproof vest

Take a small example
A tip from me
take all of your money and give it up to charity
Lovin's what I got
It's within my reach
And the sublime style's still straight from long beach
It all comes back to you you're gonna get what you deserve
Try and test that you're bound to get served
Love's what I got
Don't start a riot
You feel it when the dance gets hot
That's why I don't cry when my dog runs away
I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay
I don't get angry when my Mom smokes pot,
hits the bottle and goes back to the rock
F$%kin and fighting it's all the same
Livin' with louie dog's the only way to stay sane
Let the lovin
Let the lovin come back to me

[thumbsup2] Wow, I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time.
I think I've forgotten this before.

I just web-searched 'em...I cannot vouch for their accuracy. And Brad is dead, so we can't ask him. (RiP)

I think Pawn Shop is the worst song on the album, which overall is a pretty good album if you like the genre (what is that genre?).

--Gooser

p.s.- I always thought it was:

Sublime said:
Life of lovin',
life of lovin' come back to me.

[small]I guess that puts us back on topic, right?[/small]

While I agree that pawn shop is not the best song on the album, I don't think I would say that it's mindless crap...

That term should be reserved for all the boy bands and the like out there... Just my two cents...

Personal feelings aside, I will get back on topic. It took me a really long time to figure out what the lyrics were in this verse of 'For YOu' by the boss.

the boss said:
You were not quite half so proud when I found you broken on the beach
Remember how I poured salt on your tongue and hung just out of reach
And the band they played the homecoming theme as I caressed your cheek
They ragged, jagged melody she still clings to me like a leach
But that medal you wore on your chest always got in the way
Like a little girl with a trophy so soft to buy her way
We were both hitchhikers but you had your ear tuned to the roar
Of some metal-tempered engine on an alien, distant shore
So you, left to find a better reason than the one we were living for
And its not that nursery mouth I came back for
Its not the way youre stretched out on the floor
`cause Ive broken all your windows and Ive rammed through all your doors
And who am I to ask you to lick my sores? and you should know thats true

I can't even remember all of the lyrics I used to mishear in that part of the song. It doesn't really sound like any real word though, just Bruce bein Bruce...

So does this count as mis-heard or not?

Alex

It's a magical time of year in Philadelphia. Eagles training camp marks the end of another brutal season of complaining about the Phillies.

...Speaking of mumblers...

Anybody familiar with Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam? I've done lyrics searches for it, but they've always turned out to be 'interpretations' [or is that 'interpolations'(?)] ... I can not tell what in the world Eddie is saying in that song. It doesn't seem--judging by the lyrics I've found--that anybody else can either. It's like, I don't know what he's saying, but I know it's not that.

--Gooser

I think we should just start a wiki-lyrics site and force the artists into compliance.
