Hello
I'm trying to migrate system settings, user accounts and data files from my old SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 to new box, which is running SCO 5.0.5 as well.
I'm wondering, what would be the best way to do this?
Can I use "rsync" to acomplish my job or is there a better solution?

Thx

Wes

5.0.5 to new box ?
Warning: you may damage your P4 or Xeon processor with such OLD operating system !
minimum version for such proc is rs506a and 5.0.7 is better (not to mention 6.0.0).

Hope This Helps, PH.

It runs great on my Xeon processor. Haven't seen any smoke coming out of it.
But I would like to get this done as I described in my post. So if you have any ideas let me know.

Thx

Wes

Just don't use an Intel processor, 5.05 can have problems with hyperthreading. Although some have it working fine.

use the ap command to grab your users and groups stuff.

Thanks for your tip cdlvj, how about data and all my printer settings?

Thx
Wes

Thx PHV

But the machines are not the same. The SCSI RAID controller is different and hard drive is bigger.

Thx

Wes

I have used cpio to move data.

There is a section in one of the manuals (can't remember which one) where you can pipe the cpio to the rcp/rcmd and push it over that way.

I just create a file, ftp it over, and then take it apart with cpio.

Looked at the manuals, and can't find it. It had great examples, and was towards the end.

The printer stuff I have not done much with. Have you looked at aplawrence site?
