We have been trying to set up a Micros 3700 server and 4 terminals and keep getting the same database error. When trying to load the database on the server the error that pops up is "D:\MICROS\Database\data\micros.db:unknown error". I reformatted the first time around and installed micros programs then database programs and had to do a work around for this error "Requires ODBC version 3.51, 3.52 currently installed". After the workaround we got the same unknown error. I reformatted again and installed just the micros software and no extra database software so just using sybase that comes with it.

I'm using Windows 2000 SP 4 on a Compaq EVO for server. Micros version is 3.0.0.13. Sybase version is 6.0.3.3028 and ODBC driver version is 3.51 right now since i didnt need the workaround after the second reinstall.

Any tips, ideas, suggestions or directional finger pointing would be great. If we can the database to load the rest is cake.

Res 3.0 was released in the NT4 days and never really ran too well on w2k. Micros my not provide much help, since Res3.0/w2k isn't a supported combination. Any chance of bumping up to 3.1?

Also, if you're going to be using credit cards on your system you have to upgrade to at least 3.2 sp7 hotfix5 and use the transaction vault CC driver. That's the only version that's CISP compliant and still runs on w2k. The fines for non-compliancy are astounding. Res 4.1 hf5 is a safer bet, but you'll have to upgrade your OS to XP Pro and get new license codes.

Well the Compaq EVO actually was purchased on the line of W2K/XP days so they packaged the server with both disc and two product keys. We could upgrade the OS on the desktop no problem but it is there a price to upgrade the 3700 from 3.0 to 4.1?

Yes. Micros will make you purchase all new license codes if you go from 3.x to 4.x because it's a major version upgrade.
Going from 3.0 to 3.2 doesn't have those charges since it's a minor version upgrade. That'll run on w2k and get you up to compliancy for a while. One of the requirements is that your current software cannot be more than 2 versions old, once Vista's replacement comes out you'll have to upgrade to at least XP and Res4.x.

You can check out the compliancy standards at
