DB1 High Density slot 32,96 or 128 port daughter board
DB2 Low Density slot, 32 port daughter board only

thanks guys, maybe last question about MG card,,,what is the function of 2nd DB?
and/or the purpose of these ports?
--sorry, it's kinda above my level.
--the reason I'm asking these question is to find out the release version / software of each card to amke sure our phone are up to date and have the same s/w version.
--thanks again for you patience.

The daughter boards do all the IP to TDM conversion. So if you make a call on an IP phone over a PRI you use one of these VGW channels on the daughter boards. Any IP to TDM conversion is done on these cards. The 1st and 2nd daughter board give you more resources based on what TDM resources are in each media gateway. The more the DSP resources the less blocking you will have.

Avaya/Nortel recommends you install both daughter boards to make it non blocking. In theory a 128 and a 32 port daughter board will make it completely non blocking. The most you could have in a Media Gateway would be 10 cards, like a 16 port digital. So 10 x 16 is 160, coincidentally the exact number of DSP resources you can have on an MGC Card.
