Merlin Msg Delay Annc

My cust is using the delay annc feature of the Messaging2.5. If a call gets in the queue they hear the primary annc then in 20 sec hear the secondary annc which allows them to dial # to leave a message. This all works fine except when they press # they hear the greeting from the mailbox but they do not get a beep to leave a message and within about 5 seconds hear "Goodbye". If they are in night svc the AA will allow the caller to leave a message in the same mailbox.
I can't figure out why when the caller hits the same mailbox from the dalay annc they can't leave a msg. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.
