I have installed a Merlin Messaging R2.5. The year is jumping to 2020. The time and date are correct. We have reset it to reflect the correct time. It will jump to 2020. Any ideas on a fix?

Did you reset the date/time in voicemail admin or just in system programming. Is the date jumping in one or both. If you set the correct date/time in voicemail admin and it is changing itself - something is wrong with the messaging module. That should not be happening. The messaging module should be getting the date/time info from the processor date/time. It checks and synchronizes the date/time with the processor periodically.

The date/time is being set on the voicemail side. I have read on Avaya's website that there is an internal clock chip on the board. That is where the voicemail get's the time. Is that incorrect?

I'm pretty sure that it's the 007MLM that has an independent clock chip, since it's actually an independent PC motherboard with a BIOS and small laptop drive.

The Merlin Messaging is a specialized piece of hardware that is more intimate with the switch. And yes, Merlin Messaging should get it's time from the PBX. If the DST table or manual entry causes the time to change in the PBX, the very next telephone call that goes to voicemail will set the Merlin Messaging clock. If it's not doing that, the MM may be sick or mis-seated.

Yes and No - the clock chip maintains the time/date info - once it is set. The voicemail normally gets its date/time info from whatever is set as date/time in the processor. (So whatever date/time shows on your phone display - should be set in voicemail as well). However, this happens ONLY when you change/update date/time in system programming - and then periodically thereafter. I don't remember if it's once a week or once a day - for synchronization. If the clock chip on the voicemail is shot - it may be changing the date/time to the 2020 date you mentioned - in which you need your messaging module replaced/repaired. However iy your system/date time in SYSTEM programming is set to 2020 - then the messaging is getting the wrong date from the system - so you need to correct SYSTEM date/time.

Tom is correct in his last post. The time synch issue you are describing is the direct result of a defective component on the MMSG circuit board. It needs to be repaired before it will work correctly. Drew Telecom Group in Michigan does these MMSG repairs.

I came across this like 5 years ago.
MM 1.5 and above takes it's time from the switch. If you did set time in admin, I got some funky results.
Set the time on the switch, and see if it keeps it.
If it doesn't repair the MM module.

Thanks for the referral above for who can repair this, as I just had a MM this morning that failed time issues ..
