I am fairly new to Cognos (using report writing studio). I currently have a report that displays results in the following manner:

Description Object# Amount
SALARIES 6000 $1000
6010 $500
ADVERTISING 6100 $400
6150 $200

etc....

The way I display the results is by SORTING the Object# (thus starting at account 6000 going to say 7000).

What I would like to do is display the same info but by making the Object# invisible while STILL SORTING through Object#:

The answer would be:

Description Amount
SALARIES $1500
ADVERTISING $600

The reason is that management does not need to see the details of the account numbers. If I DELETE the Object# I lose the SORTING method and Cognos will list the description alphabetically by placing ADVERTISING on top and so forth which is NOT the way management wants to see the report.

Thanks!

Use to Object in the advanced sorting GUI (select description in the list and navigate to the sort button , there is an option advanced sorting). Drag the Object into the tree in this GUI where you want it.

Hey Nick try this...

1. Highlight the list column in the report, right click to display the context menu and select Columns Title Style.

2. In the properties of the list column change the value for the property Box Type to none.

3. Highlight the list column in the report, right click to display the context menu and select Columns Body Style.

4. In the properties of the list column title change the value for the property Box Type to none.

That is a workaround for an issue that is 100% covered by the advanced sorting Cognos offers. Why not use it as it is designed?
