Hi,
We are having some problems with a couple customers. Their mail clients(outlook, netscape) is timing out while fetchin the mail. Usually on big sized emails. They say its stuck on a specific mail (downloading 3 or 7 emails, and stops there). I believe its a anti-virus sw running on the local site but they think its us. How can i make tests on the mail server(post office) to make them believe that its a mail client problem. Or can it be the mail server problem? There s no attachment limit on the server side.
What may be the problem ?
thanks in advance.

Seen this problems with AV program when it set to scan incoming e-mails. It changes the incoming mail server address to the ip address 127.0.0.1.

If this is what happened set the incoming server back to the correct DNS address.

If these clients are downloading from a dialup or otherwise very slow connection, it will hang, or appear to hang on large messages. The only thing you can do is to limit the maximum size of the messages, or if your are running exchange and have OWA enabled, they can access it through a browser and delete the offending attachment.

Hope this helps,
Mark

PS: this would have no bearing on a high speed connection such as cable or ADSL.
