Hi,
If I'm logged into my workstation locally and change my desktop or create shortcuts etc, then log off of the system and log onto the domain the desktop settings and shortcuts are gone.

How do I import the local settings/profile so that what I have on my local system (in terms of desktop & icons etc)looks the same as when I log onto the domain?

Hi,

I expect you're using XP Pro as WS-software.
Go to the properties of you computer, then go to the Advanced tab and click on the button for Settings in the User Profiles-section.
Make sure you're not logged in as one of these users you want to copy from or to.
Select the profile you want to copy and click on "Copy to".
In the next screen you'll have to enter a physical location on your hard-drive. Also you'll need to set the user who's permitted to use this profile.
After that you should be able to log on as the "copied to"-user and find the profile you used to use logged on locally.

With kind regard,

Argetlam

Thanks for the help. I now understand how to copy a profile from the local system. Changing things up a bit what if I'm moving domains and want to keep my settings? I imagine the same process occurs in terms of copying my profile however where do I paste the profile so that when I log onto the new server & domain I have the same desktop, shortcuts etc as the old server...?

Or you can set a share point if you have multiple users who want to use the profile. specify this in their user profiles which profile to use.
