Is there a way I can install a local printer on a users 2000 machine (where a normal user does not have rights to add a local printer) without having to log them off, and sign on as an administrator.

Before anyone suggests I run either the printer folder, or add printer wizard using a 'run as' type operation - Ive tried this, and there seems to be no way to do this.

Help me please

No.

If they dont have permissions to install a Local printer, they wont be able to. You will either have to elevate their permissions, have them add the printers, then revoke the permissions, or log on as administrator.

Hmm - I just found this...it's worth a try - though I havent tried it to verify.

Windows 2000 also allows you to add and delete local printers.
You can run the commands remotely, schedule them, or even run them in a logon script, for Windows 2000 clients.

Type rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /? at a command prompt.

To add "Test Printer", an Agfa printer, on computer name PRTSVR, type:

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ia /c\\PRTSVR /m "AGFA-AccuSet v52.3" /h "Intel"
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Test Printer" /c\\PRTSVR /f "%windir%\inf\ntprint.inf" /r "lpt1:" /m "AGFA-AccuSet v52.3"
To delete "Test Printer":
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /dl /b "Test Printer" /c\\PRTSVR

Just substitute tha values you need..ie. Printername, Computername, etc..and give it a shot.
Reply back and let me know if it works for you.

There's hope! :)
