booted up S8300 with CM in external drive
open up telnet and did a unset crfl
telnet 192.11.13.6

what do you want to do ?
(X) Install install or upgrade software
Shell boot to rescue bash shell
quit reboot the server

Choose default Install
(this brings me to partion option screen)

____________________________________________________________

(X) repartition (*) A1
( ) A6

(X) OK ( ) cancel

Choose repartition (X) ( select via space bar )
tab over to drives * left default 1a
tab down to select ok

comes back with error >

required drives must be specified

please select one and only one Installation drive

tried the option with & without repartition

even tried A6 rather then default A1

I have never run into this before when loading a blank s8300
any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong ...

cheers : )

I'm guessing this is an S8300C...

Try unplugging the flash drive.

Indeed, same effect when you install a S8500 or S8700 with the flash drive connected.

sjforcum,
its an S8300B ( trying to load CM3.1.1 / CM3.1.2 / CM3.1.3 ) not an issue on the G700 as I can get to g700 comands via console cable interface indband , MGP , Voip v0 ) its an older Sn06xxxxx
not sure if this was sitting on a shelf some where in Avaya
world as most should be at SN07xxxxxx by now.

not that it would matter but I have all the MM cards and Modem disconnected - I tried 2 external Cd drives both of which I have used in the past the older TEAC version and the newer real cool looking one.

I thought the S8300C was higher Cm levels ? on a good note its not a S8300A

thank for the posting

cheers: )

The S8300B (never used the A) did not have the capability to use a USB flash memory backup device. With it prompting you to choose which drive to install on, that made this look like a C (which DOES support said USB drive).

Try not re-partitioning and just to confirm you're using the Services port, correct?

SJF

Sjforcum,
I already tried not selecting repartition and left default
value A1 same results -

" please select one and only one Installation drive "almost like it does not see the drives not matter what you choose ?

and yes using service port

tried another S8300B and it worked without an issue -
sending this back to Avaya - fyi the new one had a SN07xxxxx
and the old one - opened from a sealed box had SN06xxxxxx
not sure if this one came from national parts or what :)

Thank You for the posts !

Cheers: )
