linux corporate email server

Does linux have anything that can rival exchange server 2000 or 2003. By this I mean a full featured email program that not only servers email, but also offers calendering public folders and bascially all the collaborative features that exchange come with.Also do you guys know of any companies thats using a linux email solution if so how is it perorming for them?

Linux mail server can be Sendmail, postfix, Exim or qmail.
example : mail.linuxwaves.com is using postfix mail server
Or you can get OpenExchange mail server from SuSe Linux.

You can also consider something PHPGroupWare and some of the other groupware / collaboration tools from freshmeat.net

They'll all normally bolt onto a qmail or postfix environment and kick Exchange's butt.

Out of Sendmail, postfix, Exim and qmail which is the most robust when it comes to security? Also which one has the most features and can these be accessed over the web? I've heard of squirrel mail before is it compatiable with the above mail servers.

Freebie Courier MTA offers groupware functions and web mail services. It is a bit of a mission to configure, but once up and running it functions well. It can also be used in conjunction with other MTA's like Postfix and Sendmail, or totally by itself.

SuSE Open Exchange - definately worth a look.

If you want something that is free, but will take a lot more setting up, then one of the offerings on sourceforge/freshmeat using php/mysql etc should suffice.

They are trying to build the Exchange equivilant under Linux. I know under Debian it is pretty easy to install. I haven't played too much with it lately, but I do have it running on my server at home.
