Hi all, was hoping someone could shed some light on a few things for me...

We had a customer with an MICS 6.1 XC. They needed to upgrade to 7.0 to get the last to fiber slots to be available for use with station modules.

I was sure to get the vendor their exact info, including photos of the software release USA/CAN, etc. So I am fairly certain i got the correct upgrade tool and sw FC.

I first ran a complete backup with a rad. After that i followed the encolsed instructions to a "T" step by step. power down system, remove amphenols, remove 6.1 card, insert upgrade tool, put amphenols back in, power on...... wait until time shows, power down, remove amphenols, insert 7.0 FC, put amphenols back in, power back up.

when the system came back up, it was defaulted, the settings did not trasfer over. im not sure what didnt work, or why the upgrade tool didnt do its job. once this happened, i went back to the 6.1 card and ran a restore from the RAD. all of the programming was restored, bu the PRI no longer works and the SYSID has changed.

- what needs to be done to get the PRI to work again?
- what could have gone wrong with the upgrade to 7.0?

any help greatly appreciated. our customer is out of service until this is resolve :-0

Are you sure i didnt need the upgrade tool? I was told that in order to keep all the programming in tact, i needed first use the upgrade tool, then the software feature card?

we dont have the original auth code... will we be able to obtain a new one(cost is not an issue).

we arent a nortel partner, i assume we would need someone with access to KRS to get this done?

Positive. On any CICS or MICS you can go straight from 6.1 to 7.0 without losing programming. Buying a new PRI keycode is not a problem. I can recommend Alliance Telecom where I took a course on the BCM. Their techs are very helpful and knowledgeable. Their tech support number is 972-314-1200

Thanks for the info.... just to clarify, you can go from 6.1 XC to 7.0 XC without an upgrade tool, and without losing any programming?

in your post above you said DR 6.1 to DR 7.0

I will try Alliance Telecom... any chance they are open on saturdays?

thanks again

Yes, it works for XC too. Did your upgrade tool specify it was for XC? If not that would explain why the system never came back up and defaulted. If that is the case I'd go back to the vendor to pay for a new PRI keycode. I don't know if Alliance is open today.

The upgrade tool is for XC.

our vendor unfortuneatly is not available, and the number you provided above is busy, but i will keep trying.

I assume there is no other avenue to get a keycode, other then through a nortel partner?

Make sure your 7.0 is XC also.

Every installer guide shows exact upgrade procedure, it also explains which tool is required for which software your currently at.

You can always go straight to the next level without a tool, tools are only for jumping higher than 1 release.

Man, im going to kill our vendor(not really)!

Sounds like if we just used the 7.0 XC FC isntead of using the upgrade tool we would have been fine.

As everyone else has said you do not need an upgrade tool to go from 6.1 to 7.0. If your vendor is worth anything they should go to Avaya for a new code or if they can not do that then they should replace the code outright.

Ok, so second attempt at this is going to happen tonite. Really would like this to go smoothly. would love a final confirmation on this.

Here is Their current system/software:

Here are the upgrade tools i have from the kit:

Here is the new software that needs to be installed:

So to confirm I SHOULD be able to just:
- power down the system
- remove 6.1 software
- insert 7.1 software
- power on system

correct?

Exsmogger, thanks for the confirmation...

and yes, should have wrote 7.0, not 7.1...

wish me luck!
