I have an F50 with AIX 4.2.1.0 and an external Kingston Data Silo two drive enclosure with two 9 GB drives. One of the 9 GB drives was removed and replaced with a 73.4 GB drive (Model ST373404LW). Using add device, and adding as an osdisk (other SCSI disk), the resulting error message is:

"
...
Cannot create volume group on hdisk4. 0516-320 Physical volume <large number> is not assigned a volume group.
expr 0402-050 Syntax error
expr 0402-050 Syntax error
Creating Logical Volumes and file system for svg5

bosboot Bootimage is 5746 512 byte blocks"

So the drive does not really work with the system, though the drive is shown as "available". There is a mount point apparent from the Macintosh network that sees the drive previously there (the removed 9 GB, labeled Brisque10.5.0), but that drive only shows up as having 25 MB of space. Not sure what that means in this case.

One vendor that we work with stated that there was an "Xpatch 4.0" (or name to that effect) that may correct for this, but could not provide more info than that (nor state where that patch could be acquired.)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

might be a problem with your version of AIX.... You should try upgrading to a 4.3 Version ...
Maybe that will help. As far as I know there are a few "size restrictions" in versions below 4.3 although I'm not sure if this is one of them....

Regards
Thomas
