JTextArea + mouse

I have a JTextArea and a menu bar. The mouse disappears when ran over the JTextArea. You cannot do anything to the JTextArea but I just don't like the mouse going behind this and then appearing once you get to the menu bar.

How can I have it always on top?

What do you mean with "dissapear"? Change to text cursor?

This doesn't sound like normal behaviour. Are you using the latest JDK? Do you do anything with MouseMotionListeners etc in your code?
