hi there..
iam running a unix sco5 opating system. i have several
printers and 4 of them are been conected to jetdirects.
they were working just fine when last friday two of them
suddenly stop printing. the printing job remains into
the spooler . i can ping the jetdirects and i have changed
the ip of them , (also in /etc/hosts), i have shutdown
the system , i have reset the the jetdirect
i have tested the two printers and they are working...but nothing
at all. ALL the athers printers work fine but the problem
remains whith the two of them. im not having any other
idea what to do with it. im not sure if is it a software
problem or a hardware problem.
notice thet i have NOT done anyting to the system(hardware
or software job) for the last 3 weeks.
i would be very grateful if somebody can help me
thank you
dimitris

I have expierenced this problem before at two costumers. The first customer had linked up10/100 hubs to hubs, etc. The printers where on the last hub. I told the customer to plug the jet directs directly into the first hub and restart the spooler. The printers started printing write away. The second customer had only one hub. She had also reset the jetdirects an restarted the server. I advised here to delete all the print jobs and not to just only restart the server and the jetdirects, but also to pull out the plug, so they are without power. ( sorry but english isn't my native language).
I would summarize my expierience as follows:
- don't link to many hub's
- avoid to many 10/100 devices negotiate with each other about speed. It goes wrong randomly.
- use switches
- don't just reset, take off the current, so buffers can be emptied
- a little bit of advice, witch has surrely been given here many times before, ellimated causes
These are my expierences, i hope they can be usefulll to you.

Regards, wjterst
