I work on a military base and I'm trying to save some tax dollars by switching some lines over to ISDN BRI from POTS this will save 240 a month per 24 lines.. Heres my question, am I correct that a MICS 6.x can handle 64 lines (32 BRI circuits) using 8 cards between the 0x32 and 2 trunk modules fully loaded?? We also have 8x24 systems and Im not finding any documentation for the implementation of ISDN BRI on these systems. Oh and will the 0x32 need a combo card (for services) I order for the system to use the 32 BRI circuits?

Why don't you use a PRI or channelized T-1 instead of the BRI? The 8x24 does not support ISDN (including BRI) or T-1.

A PRI is roughly 2700 reoccurring monthly vs a BRI which is 45 reoccurring monthly so 12 BRIs= 540 a month. My original plan was to use a PRI until I saw the pricing. This has something to do with the Government contract with the phone company. I think I found out the information to the questions I asked previous but now I have another.

The ISDN BRI U interface requires no NT1, and the ST does. Am I correct in assuming this?

nashull, you're correct, the BRI-U doesn't require an NT1. It's probably the card you want, in CONUS at least.

But presuming you're stateside, $2700 a month for an ISDN-PRI has got to be a mistake, unless your local loop is 100 miles long. $2700 is several times the commercial customer month-to-month "no contract" price for a PRI, and Uncle Sam doesn't pay commercial prices. And if they can provide a BRI for $45, your local loop isn't all that long.

The break-even point for POTS lines verses a T-1 PRI is, in my experience, about 12 lines, plus you get inbound caller ID and DID for free on the PRI (well, 20 cents a month for each DID number). You could do what you want with BRI, but PRI is cleaner and should be a lot cheaper. What telco wouldn't rather maintain one local loop verses 12!
