hi,

is there? what benefit would it bring?

thanks,

I would recommend to save index and bootstraps in a separate pool just to isolate them & collect them for emergencies. Most likely you will only need to recover from one piece of media.

how come index will only use 1 media? isn't that the retention of the group will also be the same for the index? the index pool will keep on growing in that sense, right?

The index is just containing the metadata. So by nature it is smaller than the backup data.

However, it must not necessarily fit on one piece of media.

ok, do you think it is safe to dedicate only lets say 5 tapes for the index and simply force recyle old copies?

anyway the bootstrap can be backed up anytime....

Nobody can answer this beacuse the number of tapes depend on your clients' index sizes and your retention policy.

ok, will relabel of unexpired index tapes affect the savests?

No. But if you want to recover you must then scan the tape(s) first.

Also, keep in mind that the index for NAS clients can only be restored fro back, not rebuilt with scanner (with or without DSA).
