When an XML file is loaded into IE, by default all nodes are expanded. If I want to collapse a node I need to click it. Can I somehow make IE automatically collapse some nodes when it loads an XML file?

IE uses its own default stylesheet resource to display all the xml documents it encountered when the documents have no xml-stylesheet processing instruction associated with them. If you want a specific behaviour corresponding to a specific set of xml doucment source files, you have to write your own.
