I thought that IPO R8.0.18 was supposed to fix the issue of upgrading from R7 within the 90-day entitlement period.

Have a system with VM Pro that was upgraded from R7.0.27 to R8.0.16. Everything seemed fine until the system got to within 1 day of the 90-day period expiring. Now the VM Pro licenses show as dormant.

Upgraded to R8.0.18 to try to fix the issue and after several upgrades - the licenses remain dormant.

Now downgrading back to R7 to get VM Pro working again. Has anyone had this problem?? Do I need to get a free "courtesy" upgrade to R8 from the distributor? Should I have downgraded to R7 first and then applied the new R8 upgrade?

I am totally confused with this newest Avaya debacle!

call your disty or Avaya and they get you the new license for free, then they can fix whatever the problem is.

I just upgraded a system today and it seemed to work (lets wait until the 90 day period is over LOL)virtual essential edition license is there and all valid and good.

Did you have the virtual essential license there before or did you have all those free trail licenses there?

When I originally upgraded from R7.0.27 to R8.0.16 - I had the virtual Essential Edition license plus all the trial licenses as well. I am pretty sure 90-days had like 60 days to go - but the client called today to say that VM Pro was not working. When I checked Manager - I found the VM Pro licenses listed as dormant - and the ALL of the virtual licenses had disapperaed.

I did have to get the R8 license from the distributor for a different client - but was told that R8.0.18 fixed this issue.

Apparently - it does not.

the correct version 8.0.18 only brings you 1 virtual license and that is the Virtual Essential Edition see if you had that one in the backup config or if that never took place.
The upgrade license will give you full functionality again but is a pain to get in a hurry.

Joe:

I DID have the Essential Edition Virtual license - along with the trial virtuals - after first upgrading to R8.0.16. However - they all disapperaed EARLY (less than 30 days) after the unit was first fired-up. They probably disappeared today when the VM Pro licenses came-up as dormant.

8.0.18 needs to be loaded from R7 in order to work, stepping up from 8.0.16 doesnt work, 8.018 also always removes all the other trial licences, this was documented (the licence bit) :)

Don't forget to place at least one call (can be internal) in R7 befor upgrading. Entitlement period starts with your first call and upgrading from R7 to R8(.0.18) enables the virtual essential edition license wich also allows to use user profile licenses.

If you upgrade before the entitlement period starts (no call in Pre8 Releases, Power On with a new R8 SD Card) will start entitlement period in R8 and will not allow the virtual essential edition license to be created.

Very strange...

OK - so I downgraded back to R7.0.27 Should I now try to upgrade directly to R8.0.18?? I no longer show 255 as the number of available licenses for an upgrade - and yesterday the software indicated I had only 1 day of entitlement period left - and I swear the first phones were only turned on about 30 days ago.

I had that too after upgrading from 8.0.16 to .18
Downgrade to 7.0.27 and then upgrade it to 8.0.18.
This really should work.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I'll give a whirl tonight after-hours - and report back. It's really vexing.

Avaya need to get rid of the whole essential licence and Preferred pre-requisiite thing and write it all off as a bad idea.....just as we told them it was :)

Now that I will certainly agree with!

Did you upgrade back to 8.0.18 and if so did you get your lic back?
