Hi all,
I have 1120,1140 and 1165 IP sets and the PBX is RLS 7.5. Some of the set's with KEM's work for month's with no problem's many for the last year and a half since they were new but all of a sudden what happens is the KEM goes blank like it has no power and the lines and names disapear. It seems to be the first KEM if two are on the set.I reeboot the set and unplug and replug the AC and they work again could be for a week or for months. Has anyone ran into this?I have them plugged into POE switches and power transformers for the KEM's. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I didn't realize local power as well as POE was required. The KEM gets it's power from the phone and the 2nd KEM gets it's power from the 1st KEM and so on.

According to the NTP's you use local power or POE, not both. Even if you have KEM's. You may be damaging the units

I only have 1 KEM on my 1165 but the external ps only runs the back light on the KEM. If I disconnect the external ps the phone reboots and I have no back light on the KEM but the buttons still work.

You need AC power to have backlight on the KEM. The phone gives priority to AC power (for itself as well as any attached KEMs) and then secondary is PoE. If you use AC power and look at your data switch, you will see that the phone is not drawing any power over PoE. When you disconnect it from AC power, it needs to reboot in order to present the right 802.3af signature in order to get power via PoE.

It works the way gwebster described and thanks for all the responses but does anyone know why this is happining? All the sets without a KEM have no issues at all.
THANKS

I've always assumed it was a bad KEM and asked our vendor to replace it under our service agreement. Not a whole lot of trouble-shooting you can do on those thing. Have you tried doing an easy change and change the kem prompt from x to 0 and back to see if that does "wake" the kem up?

No, I just reboot the phone and unplug the transformer then it boots back up and works for could be a week or could be 3 or 4 months.
It seems like more and more are doing it and it's getting to be an issue. THANKS for the response!!
