Hello, I am about to introduce W2003 DC's to a W2K server domain. My aim is to introduce the first W2k3 DC, demote the existing W2k DC's and then follow up by introducing a few more W2k3 DC's.

I need to upgrade the AD schema on the W2k DC master using adprep but i need some words of Wisdom in relation to do's and dont's. I have manged this procedure successfully when upgrading the Schema from Server 2003 Ent edition to R2 but not from W2k to R2. Any thoughts?

Kind Regards,
BigTM.

Adding to the previous post, If I want to take advantage of all the AD features of a W2k3 server do i need to physicaly upgrade the older W2k DC's? I was hoping to just demote and bin.

Many Thanks,
BigTM

You need to extend the schema, just like when migrating to 2003.

You also need to migrate FSMO roles.

If you have Exchange in the environment already, watch out for mangled attributes

Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep command causes mangled attributes in Windows 2000 forests that contain Exchange 2000 servers
