Internet Connectivity through a proxy on Linux

I am running RH 7 and I cannot connect to the internet with Netscape. It was working when I was running RH 6.....
I tried inputing the proxy address in the manual proxy settings in Netscape but Netscape always respond with an error: "http proxy host '(my proxy server name)' is unknown". What does this mean?
Can someone please help me?
