@ present I'm having problems configuring this NIC under 7.2, on a tyan board, although the driver are already install. I can setup networking & see the card working, but when I run the insmod e1000 the error msg returned is " no such device found. There is mention that the card must be in a PC master bus slot .............. Arn't all PCI slot bus master?

I am unable to ping the system locally or network

How can I check, any suggestion greatfully recieved.

Hi,

Well, 'cat /proc/pci' will tell you what linux thinks is on your pci bus. One thing to check is to make sure the bios has 'plug-and-pray' operating system set to 'no' or 'off' because, if not, the bios will not pre-configure the pci devices for linux. You can also run '/sbin/mii-tool -v' to see if that returns any info...

Hi,

Actually forgot to mention - some bios do have a setting to enable or disable (for win95) PCI bus mastering. However, that is normally turned on for bus-mastering capable IDE controllers as far as I know so I'm not too sure if its relevant for a NIC. Anyway, you might like to check your bios settings on that one.
