Installing SQL Server

When installing SQL Server 6.5 receive message that Workstation Services didn't start???
This happens during Service Manager setup.
I'm running NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 with no network installed.

SQL Server completes installation anyway.....however when in Enterprise Manager and go to register a server....It says it can't find it.

I think the not enough storage space error is a service pack issue.

We used to get the same error message, but changing the service pack to 6a solved it.

When you go to register the server, have you tried typing in the server name in the server field instead of clicking on the drop down button ?

You are correct in saying that you need MS Loopback Adapter installed on your machine as SQL Server always requires a network even if you have not got a network card (hence the MS loopback adapter which acts as a software network).

Have you reapplied NT service pack 3 after you installed the loopback Adapter. What you will probably find is that the Loopback adapter drivers where installed from the original NT CD (ie no service pack) and other system files are at Service pack 3.

If you re-apply the service pack it will update all drivers including the Loopback adapters to SP3.

If you install any new devices / drivers from the original NT CD's, you should always re-apply the service packs as the newly installed devices / drivers will be out of sync with the rest of the system files.
