Hi Folks,

I am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to run seagate info 7 on the same server that has crystal reports developer 8 installed. (or vice versa)

For instance on a winnt 4 server, seagate info 7 is installed, then cr8 developer edition is installed.

The reason for this is to maintain the functionality of the info scheduling software....while gaining some much needed improvements to the multi threading (rdc, web reporting module) capability via asp that cr8 seems to offer? Currently Seagate Info 7 and Crystal Reports 7 are both installed on the server and things seem to be working ok....but with a lot of issues regarding threading with the version 7 rdc component.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have not tried it but all the messages on the C.D. forum and discussions at C.D. sales meetings suggest that your are entering dangerous territory.

Enterprise Professional version does have the scheduling features you want. Of course, you must pay...

The problem (as described by a Seagate technician once) is that Crystal and Info use different print engine files (CIPE as opposed to CRPE) and these each have supporting files that are different, and incompatible but have the same names. (Great plan, eh?)

I never verified the problems, but I wouldn't test it in a critical environment. I think it was supposed to show up most during the previewing, printing and exporting functions. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

Thanks for the replies......

Ken, I think that I will heed your advice and not test this in a critical environment.

Like I mentioned I do have si and cr7 currently installed on the same server, things work well.....

What I will probably do is simulate this on a development server with si7 and cr7 installed. I will remove cr7 and then install cr8.

I will then try to verify that the functionality of the si
aps and info desktop function properly, as well some dummied up asp pages.

Like I mentioned I am really shooting for an improvement with threading within the web application.

regards,
