Hello,

When I build the cube using Incremental update on a monthly basis, it zeroes out the existing information. Lets say I have a cube with data populated from January 2002 through Janurary 2003, I incrementaly update for the month of
Feb 2003, then it correctly populates for that month but replaces the existing months with zeros. How to avoid that?

Also, is it possible to do a "Clean House" for just one month? Lets say I realize that the month Oct 2002 was all wrong, Can I just clear the numbers and update Just Oct 2002? How do I do it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

From the Cognos support site:
"Verify that there has not been a table or view changed in the .IQD file with a different category. If this is the case then the model will set up a new .MDC file."
Check also on the date dimension that "Always include" is the setting for each level.
With regard to changing complete months, you may wish to look to upgrade to 7.1, which offers the ability to divide a dimension into cube groups which can be viewed as one. However, all cubes must share the same structure.

I have decided to change the incremental update to full update. That got rid of zillion issues. Our cube is not very big anyway.

Thanks lex, for trying to help me.

Aravindk,
No problem. I had tried doing incremental updates but, like you, found a lot of issues in such. I think that 7.1 does make it easier to create time-based cube groups and cut build time, but most people will look to create a data mart/data warehouse if build time or access to the main DB becomes a limiting feature of timely model creation.
Enjoy your weekend,
