Hi,

I need to change my Office 2003 installation to import text files with a non-standard file extension (i.e. not .txt, not csv, etc.)

Does anyone know which registry keys need changing, and what values I need to put in?

Or better still, is there a .reg file out there anywhere that I can just merge with my registry?

Anyone who can help earns a purple star! :)

PHV,

Thanks very much for that.

Unfortunately I cannot amend the registry to add specific file extensions as several of our large Oracle systems create sequential alpha-numeric file extensions (so my list would contain 36^3 entries).

I should have been more specific in my first post.

Is it possible to amend the registry to import *any* file extension....?

TIA,

Ed Metcalfe.

Simply delete the DisabledExtensions entry.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Honestly I usually do an import "process" for importing text files...it would be pretty easy to have one step of the import process to be copying the file and setting the extension to .txt. Of course I've only ever imported ~10 max at a time so it's not an issue for me...

PHV,

Have tried removing the key altogether but now I'm getting a "Cannot update, database or object is read only" error. This is caused the latest service pack for Jet.

Anyone know if I can disable this security feature and allow all file extensions.....?

Copying and renaming the file isn't ideal as some of the files are huge and the systems are running multiple imports.

TIA,

Ed Metcalfe.

Guys,

Problem solved. If you leave the key in place, but delete the values, any text file can be imported.

PHV - Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Have a star. :)
